Blue working on the mushroomforest, at the 2008 art explosion in Assen

I (Blue) have been making drawings like this since I was a young girl. I never received an education in the arts but I am as they call it 'autodidact'. Through the years I have developed my own style, especialy in my colouring pencil/crayon drawings. I also work with acrilic paint and pastel crayon, but mostly I work with colouring pencils/crayons. When people first see my work, they often don't realize what material it's made of. It's of hard to explain or discribe what it looks like, so I placed some pictures here.

Work in progress 2

This series of photographs show me working on another drawing called 'Mushroomforest'. Again it shows that I start with a sketch. This scetch usualy evolves as I work on it and is rarely thought of in advance. Usualy I have no clear idea of what the sketch will look like untill it is finished. When I am satisfied with the sketch I trace it with ink and then the colours can be added.
Here the plan was to make a forest filled with mushrooms, dark and damp, wich is hard to imagine when the paper is still white and empty.

The first beginning.
The sketch went on realy fast, it almost drew itself. The first colour has been added here because I had to choose colour scheme. It has to do with deviding the colours in a balanced manner.

These are some details from the early stage.

I tried to make different kinds of mushrooms, based on shapes of real mushroom you find in nature...

...but the colours had nothing to do with real muchroom.

I just can't help but play with colours.

While drawing I decided that the forest was standing on hills.

The further in the background, the darker the colours.
