Family Deen

You may have noticed, Ronald and Blue are slight history freaks. This includes family history. Blue climbed into the familytree. For her own family this meant serious research but Ronalds familytree was pretty much known, thanks to members of his family. We thankfully used the fruits of there labour and we like to share. For privacy reasons we start this familytree with our greatgrandparents. On this page you can find the familytree of the Deen family, starting with Blue's greatgrandfather Lambert Deen.

This picture of Lambert Deen and Hilligje Kamps most have been taken in the summer of 1901.
In the spring of 1901 their first child was born, daughter Alberdina, here as a little baby on her mothers knee.
Hilligje is wearing the silver headdress which is probably her mothers Jantje Uiterwijk. (see page on the family Kamps)

More children followed. In this picture taken around 1912 there are 5 kids, the couple would have 8 children in total.

2 Elzo Deen born 22-02-1830 in Vries. He died 23-12-1907 in Emmen.

In 23-01-1873 he married:

Owner of Cafe Deen:In 1860 Geert Hovenkamp logementhouder (he owns an hotel) in Emmen genoemd. Also mentioned is the fact that he ownes the buildings to either side of the hotel.
Elzo Deen lives in one of them.
The sandroad is very wide. That is becouse it used to be "de drift". Along this road the livestock was taken to the markets. The fences on either side of Cafe Deen were the marketfences. Here the sheep were locked in untill they could be sold on the market the next day. The café was very populair with the locals.

It is known that Elzo Deen was blind as an older man as the picture above clearly shows, but this did not stop him from taking daily walks. It made a well known figure in the neighbourhood.
Besides cafékeeper Elzo Deen also traded in sheep and pigs.

He married 29-05-1856 with Margaretha Philippina van Wiebel, born 16-09-1829 in Middelburg but she died in 22-05-1871.
Many people with the last name Deen from Odoorn and Oosterhesselen are desendents from Elzo's children from this first marriage.

He married:

17 Trijntje Kristiaans. She died before 1759.

Generation 9

32 Albert Gerrits, born about 1700.

Note: He has several children who are born in the villages Yde, Bunne en Donderen. Maybe Albert was a worker who traveled from village to village to find work at the local farms. It is very well possible that he came from North-Drenthe, but it is not unlikely that he came from Groningen. In the province ofGroningen there used to be a small community named Denenkamp. The exact origin of the name Deen is not known.
A relation to other families with the same last name (Limburg, Amsterdam) has not been found and is very unlikely.

He married:

33 Aaltje Jans?
