Het shoemakershouse

schoenmakershuis

The house we got to call home during our stay in the Vikingecenter was this little red house, the shoemakershouse. It is the smallest house in this part of the vikingecenter that shows what ribe looks like in about 850 A.D. And according to our vikingbuddies, the most populair to stay in.

The woodworkshop

Behind the shoemakershouse, there is another building. this is the woodworkshop. They men of the workshop woke us up right on time every morning, around 7 o'clock. Now thats dedication.

As you walk in...

As you walk in to the house, the first thing you see is this view. Naturally this picture shows some of our own stuff since all the visiters that get to stay here during the summermonths, try to decorate the house as much as possible.

Decorated

But things like the furniture, tapestry and the shoes hanging from the ceiling ar not ours. This house has been decorated like all the other houses, we just add to it. Yhe shoes hang from the ceiling to keep the mice from chewing holes into the leather.

Bed Stee

Behind the curtains in the back of the house there is this bed stee hidden from view. The cow and sheepskins were waiting for us when we arrived and that makes for a really nice bed!

Fireplace

We didn't use the fireplace very often. The smoke should leave the house through a smokehole in the roof but for some weirdo reason it left the house through the door instead!

Fireplace at night.

At night we used the candlesticks that were in the house to lighten the place up. Along with the wooden lanterns it looked very homey.

Kindda dark

Those lanterns were really necessary for there are only three little windows in this house. They are covered with animalskin that let quit some light through but it is still a dark little house. This picture was taken when it was still light outside

But so cute!

That has its bad sides but also a possitive one. All those little flames made us feel right at home!

If you'll ever visit the VikingeCenter in the future, please check out the shoemakershouse. Next time we're there we sure will!
