Needlebinding

The Technique

Under here you wil find a description of the Oslostich.
For the nalbinding I do, this is the base stich. Other stiches like Mammen, Asle a.o. are based on this Oslostich.

Starting

Step 1

Drive your thread through the eye of the needle. Make sure that your thread is not to long, because it will get tangled (you have to pull through your intire thread)

Step 2

At the other side ov the needle you make a loop as big as a marble by making a simple knot.

step01&02
Step03

Step 3

Take the loop between thumb and indexfinger. Try to keep you needle on the left side. I usualy wind The other end of the thread around my little finger to keep it out of the way.

Step 4

Now make a new loop around you thumb and make sure the needle ends at the same place as before. Now you have two loops. One around your thumb #1(horizontal on the foto) and one behind your thumb #2(vertical on the photo).

step04

To summarize the above, the movie below.

Step 5

Take your needle, go over the first loop(#1).

step05
step06

Step 6

Take the needle over your thumb and stick it under the second loop(#2).

Step 7

Turn the needle around, now facing towards you. The needle automatically goes #2.

step07
step08

Step 8

Move the needle towards you and let the needle go under #1. When you pay attention, you'll see you have made a third loop(#3). Push the needle futher so it goes under #3.

Step 9

Try to keep#1 and #2 in place with your thumb and indexfinger, wile pulling on the working end of your thread.

step09
step10

Step 10

Just before you completed your third loop, let #1 slide over your thumb. Now he has shifted to the second placeand therefore becomes #2. What once was #2 is not relevant anymore for the oslostitch.

After pulling #3 it becomes #1. #1 becomes #2 and #2 will not be used anymore.

Step 11

When you've done it correctly, your new #1 hangs loose around your thumb. Pull it tighter so you can start at step 5 again.
Make sure you do not pull it to tight! When you have learned to needlebind tight, it's hard to learn loose needlebinding again.

step11

And again a movie, so you can see it in front of you.

Because you can't use a unendless thread for needlebinding, we have to ty the ends together... But knots in your work isn't very neat, we vilt the ends together.
